Mamata Banerjee steps in to resolve Howrah Christmas Carnival Row
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched the Howrah Christmas Carnival by herself. The event came to an abrupt halt amid allegations of hazing in the name of parking. The Howrah city authorities alleged that the program was stopped midway due to the objection of the 'closers' of the State Minister for Sports Manoj Tiwari. Last December 22, the Howrah Christmas Carnival started at Shasthi-Narayan Eco Park in Dumurjla, Howrah. Allegedly, money was being taken illegally in the name of Howrah Municipal Corporation in the name of parking. An agency called Maa Tara Parking, citing the name of the Howrah Municipal Corporation, collects this money from the day the fair opened on December 22. Illegally 10 rupees per bike and 5 rupees per cycle is collected. Money was taken in the name of the corporation but no valid receipt was issued.
