CM Mamata Banerjee orders to remove wrecked part of ship into Muriganga after Gangasagar Mela
The
shipwreck happened years ago. The issue of that Bangladeshi ship came up in the
Gangasagar preparatory meeting! Because, due to that watercraft, char has risen
dangerously towards Kachuberia in Muriganga. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee
expressed concern about this. In the meeting, he said, "This ship should
be removed after the Gangasagar Fair is over." The shipwreck was not
known. After that, char was created from there.”
State Chief
Minister Mamata
Banerjee sat in a meeting to review the preparations for the Gangasagar
Mela at Nabanna on Wednesday. There, Sundarbans Development Minister and Sagar
MLA Bankim Hazra raised the issue of the sudden growth of char in the direction
of Kachuberia. Officials of Army, Navy, Kolkata Port Trust, Disaster Management
Department were present in the meeting. The Chief Minister seeks their opinion
on the matter of moving the ship. Everyone reported that they had no skills in
moving sunken ships. Dredging Corporation of India can do the work with the
help of outside agencies. In case of an accident like shipwreck, the Navy also
takes help from foreign agencies.
The chief
minister wants to know about this from the disaster management department. They
also suggest seeking help from dredging corporations. After this, the Chief
Minister said, "There is GangaSagar Mela ahead, it is not possible to lift
the ship now." Once the fair is complete, we will have to think about how
to do this. Remember, this is an international waterway. It should also be kept
in mind that the public life of the Sundarbans is not affected in any way.''
The ship
sank on the way back to Bangladesh with fly ash during Corona. Seven sailors
were rescued. They were recently sent back to Bangladesh according to
international norms. But the ship could not be saved. In fact, it is extremely
dangerous to have such ships in the middle of the waterway. In this case, the
place needs to be surrounded so that no accident happens. 'Marking' is
required. It is also necessary to ensure that no accidents occur at night. The
Chief Minister directed the Chief Secretary to take further action in this
regard as suggested by the Indian Navy. In his words, "We will inspect for
how to mark the place." It is to be noted that last Thursday, Irrigation
Minister Partha Bhowmik visited Sagar Dwip to review the progress of all the
works in the hands of the Irrigation Department related to the Gangasagar Mela,
starting from drazing in Muriganga.
