DA protest agitators gathered at Nabanna premises, continues dharna
A day earlier, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced the
decision to give additional four percent DA to state government employees. But
even that does not reduce the fury of the movement. The struggling joint
platform is raising the bar of the movement by calling the additional four
percent dearness allowance announced by Mamata Banerjee as just 'eyewash'. With
the permission of the High Court, the DA protestors are sitting on a dharna on
the opposite side of Nabanna in the middle of the night.
The DA protest agitators are arguing with the police over the dharna
site. Sangamri Joint Mancha complains that the police is preventing the dharna
despite the order of the High Court. Due to which the situation became heated.
The police kept miking and saying, “There is no permission for a dharna stage
here. You are sitting here putting the common man in trouble." Right in
front of the police officer who was miking, the protestors asked, "Who
says there is no permission?" The court has permission.” The agitators
started protesting by beating the lid and banging bowls. Slogans have been
going on since morning, the sound of 'Bolo Hari Bol' is being heard. They are
also involved in arguments with the police.
On Thursday, the High Court gave conditional permission for
the dharna in front of Nabanna on the DA's demand. Justice Rajashekhar Mantha
gave conditional permission for the joint struggle stage at Nabanna bus stand.
The court said that they can sit on dharna from December 22 to December 24.
However, according to the court's condition, more than 300 people cannot stay
together on that stage. At the same time, the court said that the location
movement must comply with the pollution control rules. The court has also
ordered that care should be taken so that there is no impact on the national
highway. Besides, the Howrah Police Commissionerate can impose the necessary
rules to control law and order. The state is going to the division bench
against the judgment of the single bench.
The protestors complained that despite having valid permission,
their program is being obstructed on various pretexts. Bhaskar Ghosh, convenor
of the Sangamri Joint Manch, said, “The words that are being said have no
basis. If something can be done to provoke us before that.” However, the police
have not used any coercion so far.
